BEIRUT, Lebanon — Militants disguised as soldiers detonated two car bombs outside the United States Embassy compound in Sana, Yemen, on Wednesday morning, killing 16 people, including 6of the attackers, Yemeni officials said.

Tourists feared among dead in Yemen blast.At least five people were killed in a car bombing today at a tourist site in Yemen's northeastern provinceof Mareb, police said.
Yemeni security sources said the attack could be the work of al-Qaida. The blast came after the terror group issued a statement demanding the release of militants jailed in Yemen, and warned of unspecified actions.

The attack on Wednesday was the deadliest and most ambitious in years in Yemen, a poor south Arabian country of 23 million people where militants aligned with Al Qaeda have carried out a number of recent bombings.

On the campaign trail, Senator Barack Obama issued a statement condemning the bombing and calling for increased counterterrorism assistance to the alliesof the United States. “We must do more to strengthen the military, police, and intelligence capability in nations like Yemen that are on the front lines in the fight against terrorism,” Mr. Obama said.

After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, Yemen joined in a counterterrorism partnership with the United States, and its elite American-trained forces have had some important successes in fighting jihadists.

America said that Yemen is against terrorism and we are with yemen.Yemen is also facing serious security threats on other fronts, including an intermittent rebellion in the north that has left thousands of people dead since it began in 2004 and periodic riots and instability in the south.
